About
The Caprini risk assessment model was developed by Dr. Joseph Caprini at Northwestern University and published in 2005 and updated in 2010. It is the most widely used VTE risk assessment tool in surgical patients and is endorsed by the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the American Society of Hematology (ASH). Risk factors are assigned 1, 2, 3, or 5 points based on the strength of association with VTE.
